Son of Preacher Dies

We are very sad to announce the death of Hector Gabriel Reyes, the 8 year old, only son of Santos Lainez and his wife, Yamileth Mirna Bonilla. Gabriel was thrown from the back of a pickup when it dodged to avoid being hit by another vehicle on Monday, November 2nd, 2009 in Juticalpa, Olancho, Honduras. Juticalpa, the capital of Olancho, is where Santos preaches at the Iglesia de Cristo, Barrio Los Angeles. They have 2 daughters, Katia and Maydelin, one 5 years older and one only a year younger than Gabriel.

We were told that Gabriel led singing at the church service the Sunday morning before he died. He was a fun loving boy who had a very special relationship with his sisters. You can tell from the photos below that he was the type of young man who would be willing to look serious for one photo, but more than that, and he would have his tongue out or be making a face.

We were blessed to have the whole family visit with us for more than an hour on the 23rd of October. They had fun playing with the puppets and toys and reading the childrens books we have here at the MPRC, while Dad was doing some important work in the computer lab.
