Area Wide Worship

More than 350 Christians gathered for an area-wide church service at the Las Lomas facility on Sunday, Feb. 15. Those that arrived late had to leave because there was not even enough standing room to get within the gates of the facility grounds. There were a number of large blue tarps set up to shade the crowd. But the crowd was so large, it covered less than half of them. The blue tarps also explain why everyone in the crowd looks a little "blue".

The gathering is a quarterly event that moves among facilities and is intended to encourage fellowship and unity among the members of the various churches of Christ. Under the blue tarp The 15 congregations represented included El Colegio, Santa Maria Del Real, La Mansión, San José, Villa Verde, Jutiquile, La Trinidad, El Centro, Nueva Esperanza, San Isidro, Siguate, Arimís, Fredy Salgado (Nueva Victoria), Buenos Aires, and, of course, Las Lomas. We know of at least one other congregation that wanted to be there, but could not because they had no way to make the long journey. It was the first event like this that the Tomkinses had attended in Olancho and it was enjoyable to worship with so many brothers and sisters.

Remote Teacher Training Update 19 February 2009

The most recent remote teacher´s training session held by the Mission Point Resource Center was in San Esteban, Olancho, Honduras on Saturday, the 14th of February. It was well attended by teachers of children from the Iglesia de Cristo in San Esteban and surrounding congregations. This was the second in a series of 3 class sessions which are being delivered in the various mountain communities and last 3 hours each session.

17 teachers represented congregations from not only San Esteban but from as far away as 2 hours. Class at San Esteban Jorge Vargas, MPRC Director, taught the class. Participants were given written materials and were taught such subjects as the differences in child developmental ages and why some children can learn certain material that is too advanced for younger children. They were also given topics and material suggestions for presentation to the various age groups.

Teachers were very pleased with the material they learned and because of that material, 5 of the participants decided to divide up the 40 kids of the San Esteban congregation into separate classes based on age groups. They were previously taught in one classroom. They plan to present material more suitable to the different developmental ages.

The MPRC will be supplying them all the materials they will need to teach the various age group classes for the next 6 months and has Sunday School materials for any congregations that would like them.

Refreshments were provided by the ladies of the congregation during a break in the session.
