Located in "la barrio La Trinidad", on the east side of Catacamas and 2 blocks south of the main road, the La Trinidad Church of Christ is one of the 13 congregations in and surrounding the city of Catacamas.
The San Isidro congregation was started by La Trinidad and is also one of the 13 congregations located around Catacamas, a few hours south of central Catacamas. Rio Tinto. is 30 minutes by car to the east, towards Culmi, and the La Union, Olancho. congregation is in the mountains 3 hours north of Catacamas. The newest, started in Poncaya. in September, 2008, is 3 hours towards the south and currently has 11 members. All 4 of the congregations seeded by La Trinidad have full time preachers and the first 3 also have sponsoring congregations that provide financial support. Poncaya does not have a supporting congregation. José de Jesus Pagoada has been preaching at La Trinidad since it first started on Feb. 2, 1998, along with Roger Figueroa who worked with him for the first 6 years.
One son of José,
Enrique (20),
first began preaching at the age of 16 and is now the youth minister for the La Trinidad congregation.
However, Enrique's real passion is singing. He has developed a group of 18 singers that enjoy harmonizing and are ready to travel to any event at which they are invited to sing. Though this hasn't happened yet, they are still hoping to spread their magical music to God's Glory in other places. Their building was constructed by a congregation in Mentor, Ohio in 2000, but they have only one small classroom for 5-10 year olds and no room to teach the younger or older students.
The church was financially supported from Mentor, Ohio for 2000 and 2001, by Michael West (TX) from 2000-2003, and then at different times by Naples, Northridge, and Oula in TX, and by groups from Predisan medical clinic.
La Trinidad congregation has 85 members, with 7 regularly scheduled classes throughout the week involving the whole congregation but also special classes for the women, the youth, and the children separately. More importantly there are 10 men who are strong in the faith who are able to teach and evangelize and 4 women leaders who teach women and children as well as assist in evangelism. The vision José has for the congregation is to have a large church of strong leaders and servants working for the Lord. It appears they are well on the way. Below we have some photos of some of the 22 baptized in the campaign receiving certificates of baptism (provided by the MPRC) to remind them of that day when their sins were washed away and they became a new creation.
